After 18 Years, Nike Will Leave the S&P 100.- yeeeouch....

What Nike’s removal means

“Nike entered the S&P 100 in December 2008. Since then, it has stayed on the index for the last 18 years without interruption. But experts say this month’s removal does change the company’s prospects.

“Index membership tends to reflect what has already happened, rather than determine what happens next,” Josh Taves, managing director of Post Oak Group, told Inc. “The more important issue for investors is whether Nike can turn the strength of its brand into consistent growth again.”"

The Brutality of Tillamook Rock Lighthouse - Terrible Tilly

First lit on January 21, 1881, the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse is one of the most isolated lighthouses in the United States. Happy New Year!

Happy New year everyone! Spent some time in lovely Oceanside, Oregon to recharge a bit and had a lovely hike with friends in Forest Park yesterday. Here’s to 2024. Have some iPhone snaps. ;)

Bayocean: The lost resort town that Oregon forgot

As someone who loves the coast and the stories about it, I never heard of Bayocean. A small town that was returned to the sea in Tillamook.

“Back in the early 1920s Sutherland said, he would have been looking at an entire street with homes, paved streets with sidewalks and a pier that extended almost a quarter-mile into the bay.

“Looking across the street to the south would have been the general store, run by Francis and Ida Mitchell,” Sutherland said. “And then across the street was the Bayside Inn.”

Now it's just bushy trees and salal.

Sutherland thinks the whole place is an archeologist's dream.

“A little bit uphill you’d probably find old automobiles parked, rotting away. And some refrigerators, water heaters, whatever was left behind when this became an island."

But how did it all happen?
