Just something to listen to during your work day. Gotta love a 15 minute guitar solo.

Just posted a new project to Behance. Photographer Patrik Giardino asked me if I would help build up some images for a United States Army project late 2013 into early 2014. Here are the builds that made it all happen. Great shooting by Patrik to capture all of this.

Kyle Wiley at Eight Day asked me if I could shoot some fabric samples for him and make them look like landscapes while showing off different aspects of the material. Here are the results. Used my trusty Dedolights and tilt shift 90mm. Full Portfolio on my Behance site.
This really explains this all clearly, love it!

Fired off a really succesful cloth simulation today. Either I took my smart pills or the 901 update fixed some of the dynamic issues I was having with softbodies. Tons of polys here and I was able to run the sim and tweak things without the whole project crashing / dragging to a stop.
Sims are like setting up a elaborate mouse trap to me. Build up all this stuff, then fire it off and watch the reaction. You can never really know how it will all react.
A fun Daily 3d Project working with oversized micro scratches, glass and my pavement shaders. The pavement is workinig really well in Modo 901.
Had some fun with sub surface scattering last night. I really enjoy the textures on this one.
Was messing around with some replicators last night and built this up. Volumetric light in the center. Not much fancy going on with textures, just trying to get some interesting movement and shape in here.
Been busy with all sorts of projects so I have been posting to the blog and Behance a lot less as of late. But I have been doing a ton of Instagram stuff which is just to the left there. Just posted this render there from last night. I focused on working on normal maps, sub surface scattering and transparency. Stay cool out there!
When his world was stolen, Mark Hogancamp made a world of his own Watch the Full film on Journeyman: http://jman.tv/film/5047/Marwencol Or for downloads and more information: http://www.journeyman.tv/65559/documentaries/marwencol-hd.html After a vicious attack outside a bar leaves him brain-damaged and broke, Mark Hogancamp seeks recovery in "Marwencol", a miniature World War II-era town he creates in his backyard.
Plugging along with week two of the Daily 3D project with a bit more success after trying to simplify my ideas. Went a bit more into simply fun cartoonish characters then abstracts. Was a lot of fun to model out and render this guy. Based off of a sketch by billiambabble that I really liked on instagram.
I started to do a Daily 3D project about a week ago and it has been a really intersting excercise so far. I am attemping to post one 3D project a day to my instagram account but I don't always get something worth posting. Which is a nice way of saying that I have gone down some real ugly rabbit holes of bad ideas and misplaced direction, lol! It has beat into my skull that once again that simpler is almost always better. Get an idea and see how far you can strip it down just to get something decent looking. Ton of fun though and learning all sorts of things doing it. Highly recommend it or something similar if you are in the arts.
Aaron Hewitt reached out and asked if I could help build up a action shot for ESPN which just went live. Had to do a lot of work on that BG to get it where the AD wanted it. All CGI trees.
Did a couple rush background swaps and tonings last week that went live already it seems. Weee!
Before on the left and the afters on the right of course.

Just picked up this new Cymbal & Gong 22" crash ride, "Holy Grail" from Revival Drums and it sounds so damn good I wanted to do something visual with it. They do a custom patina which makes it really have that vintage look as well. Shot with my Dedolights and comped into a sweep made in Modo.
Amazing motivational interview here. Says he did not consider himself a master till 50 years old! before that was, "A lot of failures."

After years of not being on Instagram due to my dislike of social media I signed up not too long ago and I have been having a blast. That with the new iPhone camera just makes walking around and doing my street photography super fun again. That is the feed to the left over there. Now if only I could start to understand hashtags, lol!
The lovely photographer Thomas Brummett asked us to help out on a project for Pedialyte that went live today. It's called, "See the Lyte"
