New Work In The Wild: adidas Samoa

Did some CGI set building for the fine folks at Kamp Grizzly the other week and it looks like adidas relased them out into the wild. Some fun, clean and simple sets.

New Work in the Wild: Butler Bros "Real Good" gum.

Been a busy monkey here so I have not been doing enough of my daily CGI or postings here. Much apology, such sorry. But anyways, I recently did some CPG renders for Butler Bros out of Austin that came out really well.  Getting the foil looking like that was fun to figure out. Check out the full gallery and read up on it at their site.  Butler Bros Real Good Gum Campaign.

Daily Doodle project

Been doing a "Daily Doodle" project for about 7 months now where I try to do something in Modo everyday. I seem to swing and miss more often then not but it has been a great learning experience in a few ways. My Modo chops have been improving leaps and bounds of course but it is interesting how it has helped me concept ideas and approach creating. Simple is always better when the goal is just to knock something out in a day.  But I hate to recycle ideas and I am slowly learning that it is OK to do that as people view that as your "style".  Interesting stuff for sure

Here is a sample of them that I have really enjoyed and I wanted a place to post them where they can be seen at a higher res. Did the gym render this weekend and a lot of experimenting with scale.  The boards are not big, the whole sphere and wires bit is as big as a basketball. ;). You can see them as I make them by checking out my Instagram account to the left.

New Work in the Wild:Nike Doernbecher

Proud to have been brought on board by Photographer Ryan Unruh to do the post for Nike Doernbecher, a pretty awesome charity.

"Twelve years later, the Freestyle Collection has raised over $11 million to help expand the hospital’s pioneering research, support clinical care, purchase state-of-the-art equipment, recruit new experts and subsidize the cost of care for families in need."

Did all the post and came up with the fun little CGI boxes to put them all in. Great shooting by Ryan made it easy to snap it all together. Check em out!

Autumn in the air

Having some lovely autumn weather right now and was motivated to work on a CGI landscape piece.  Few things I am not happy with but overall I enjoy this one.

New Work in the Wild: NIKE SOCCER WOMEN’S CLEAT PACK FOR 2016

New work released into the wild today. Nike women's cleat pack for 2016 is live on the Nike site.  Shot by Ryan Unruh I built up the CGI stadium and grass. Few "out of memory" errors later and VIOLA, here ya go.  Enjoy!

Create Everyday.

Fired off a really succesful cloth simulation today.  Either I took my smart pills or the 901 update fixed some of the dynamic issues I was having with softbodies.  Tons of polys here and I was able to run the sim and tweak things without the whole project crashing / dragging to a stop.

Sims are like setting up a elaborate mouse trap to me. Build up all this stuff, then fire it off and watch the reaction. You can never really know how it will all react.

Daily 3d!

A fun Daily 3d Project working with oversized micro scratches, glass and my pavement shaders. The pavement is workinig really well in Modo 901.

Daily 3d

Was messing around with some replicators last night and built this up. Volumetric light in the center. Not much fancy going on with textures, just trying to get some interesting movement and shape in here.

Busy, busy, busy!

Been busy with all sorts of projects so I have been posting to the blog and Behance a lot less as of late. But I have been doing a ton of Instagram stuff which is just to the left there. Just posted this render there from last night.  I focused on working on normal maps, sub surface scattering and transparency. Stay cool out there!

Daily 3D project: Week two.

Plugging along with week two of the Daily 3D project with a bit more success after trying to simplify my ideas.  Went a bit more into simply fun cartoonish characters then abstracts.  Was a lot of fun to model out and render this guy.  Based off of a sketch by billiambabble that I really liked on instagram.

Daily 3d Post

Reddit has a Daily 3d sub I have been lurking on for awhile and the one today was "Eclipse" and I thought I could do something fairly quick on that one. So this is my first submission to it.

New Work in the Wild: BdRm Album artwork

Some album artwork I did was just released out into the wild.  Jeremy Wilkins recorded some lovely instrumental piano tracks he released under the name bdRm.  I really enjoyed the music and came up with this atmospheric piece that I felt meshed with the music well.  The subtle branding was a bit daring to do as it is reaaaaaaaaallly subtle but once again, I believe that it echoes the subtle nature of the music.

You can get it on:

bdRm on iTunes.  bdRm on This World is Against Me.  BdRm on Bandcamp.

Personal work, Office and Ice Study

Worked up two CGI personal projects this weekend.  The astronaut "Office Hell" image was to work on interior lighting, dynamics as curves and some simple UVing. Also shattered the helmet a bit to get those cracks which is always fun to do. Then I brought it all into Painter to explore some treatments in there.  I wanted to take it away from the fully clean CGI look and grunge it up a bit.

The Ice Flowers was done in responce to Makoto Azuma's installations which are awesome looking.  I wanted to see how close I could come to those using Modo. Besides some work on modeling the ice block I am pretty happy with how it came out. Fairly minor post in Photoshop adding some slight grain and darkening the foreground. Took 8 hours to render that out using 38 cores.

Holiday Half Study

Wanted to do a little project for Sara since she just ran the Portland Holiday Half and this is the result.  Wanted to work on my text chops.

Personal Work: Grass Fields.

Just picked up a bunch of new models of grass and did this quick test render with a stock photo backdrop.  It is a tad "glossy" on the plants but I enjoy it visually quite a bit.  Great models...
